Designed for travelers who want to see the famous Instagram spots but also enjoy real Balinese culture and landscapes, this trip combines the legendary Lempuyang Temple (Gates of Heaven), the elegant royal water palaces of Tirta Gangga and Taman Ujung, plus time to unwind at Virgin Beach or take in the sweeping Lombok viewpoint. With a friendly local guide and comfortable private transport, you can simply sit back, enjoy the views, and soak in the atmosphere of East Bali’s mountains, rice terraces, and coastline.
We start early to reach Lempuyang Temple while the light is soft and the air is still cool. Here, you’ll have time to walk through the temple complex and capture your own version of the famous "Gates of Heaven" photo with Mount Agung as a dramatic backdrop (weather permitting). From there, the journey continues to Tirta Gangga Water Palace, a former royal bathing complex filled with stepping stones, fountains, koi-filled ponds, and lush gardens. After exploring and taking photos, we head to Taman Ujung Water Palace, where long reflecting pools, pavilions, and sea views create a peaceful, almost dreamlike setting that feels far from the crowds of South Bali.
In the afternoon, the tour slows down as we make our way to Virgin Beach or a nearby coastal viewpoint overlooking the Lombok Strait. Here you can relax on the soft white sand, swim in clear turquoise water, or simply enjoy a fresh coconut while admiring views towards the island of Lombok on a clear day. This tour offers a full mix of culture, history, nature, and beach time in just one day, making it perfect if you have limited time but want a complete East Bali experience. Itinerary
Day 1 - East Bali Gates of Heaven, Water Palaces & Virgin Beach (10 Hours)
- 04:00–05:00 – Hotel pick-up and drive to East Bali
Your driver/guide picks you up from your hotel in South Bali or Ubud. Sit back and relax in a private air-conditioned car as you drive through quiet early-morning roads towards East Bali, passing small villages and rice fields along the way. - 06:30–09:00 – Lempuyang Temple (Gates of Heaven)
Arrive at Lempuyang Temple and take the shuttle up to the main area. Your guide will help with the registration and explain basic temple etiquette. Walk through the temple complex, enjoy the cool mountain air, and line up for your chance to take photos at the famous Gates of Heaven with Mount Agung in the background (view depends on weather and clouds). - 09:30–11:00 – Tirta Gangga Water Palace
Continue to Tirta Gangga, the former royal water palace known for its beautiful ponds and fountains. Stroll along the stepping stones, feed the koi fish, and explore the gardens while your guide shares stories about the palace’s history and its importance to the local royal family. This is also a great spot for relaxed photos. - 11:30–13:00 – Taman Ujung Water Palace
Head further east to Taman Ujung, another elegant royal water palace with large reflecting pools, pavilions, and ocean views. Wander the pathways, climb to the upper viewpoint for panoramic photos of the complex and coastline, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere away from the busier parts of Bali. - 13:15–15:30 – Virgin Beach / Lombok Viewpoint and return
Drive to Virgin Beach (or a nearby Lombok viewpoint if sea conditions are not ideal) for some relaxed free time. Swim, sunbathe, or simply enjoy a fresh coconut and local lunch at one of the simple beach warungs (meal at your own expense). On a clear day, you may see the outline of Lombok across the strait. Afterward, depart back to your hotel, arriving in the late afternoon depending on traffic and your pick-up location.
